About Dehara

A fresh lens.
Deep roots.

I am a Port Coquitlam parent raising my family in this city, and someone who has spent years working at the centre of community life as a coach, mentor, business owner, community builder, and sport and recreation leader.

From running a nonprofit as Executive Director of She Plays Sports Society where I built programs that strengthen community, to serving as a board member of Mabuhay House Society, to chairing logistics and volunteer management for the BC Summer Games 2024, I have spent my career building programs that make a lasting difference for people at every stage of life.

“I am running to contribute something new to this city’s story. A different lens of perspective at the council table that reflects the full breadth of who we are as a community.”

Port Coquitlam is a city I love. I want to contribute to its future by bringing fresh ideas and a wealth of lived experience to every decision that shapes daily life for every resident.

My Platform

Four priorities
for Port Coquitlam.

My priorities are shaped by listening to residents across every neighbourhood and by years of experience building programs that make a genuine difference in people's lives.

01
🏠

Affordable Housing

Every family deserves a place to call home in the city they love. I will work to make housing more attainable through practical, locally driven solutions.

  • Support zoning and land use policies that create a mix of housing options for all income levels
  • Expedite approval timelines so projects that meet community needs move forward without unnecessary delay
  • Keep property taxes low and protect residents from financial pressures driven by rapid growth
  • Work with the province on housing solutions shaped by our community's needs, ensuring PoCo residents have a genuine voice
  • Work with non-profit and community housing partners to expand attainable options for families, seniors and newcomers
02
🛡️

Community Safety

Every resident deserves to feel safe in their neighbourhood, on their streets and in their parks. Safety is built through strong services and connected communities.

  • Support frontline services and first responders with the resources they need to keep PoCo safe
  • Advocate for dedicated programs that address mental health and addiction as the community health issues they are
  • Improve traffic safety so every resident can walk, cycle and drive safely through our city
  • Work with community partners to create welcoming, well-maintained public spaces for everyone
  • Support outreach and prevention initiatives that address the root causes of community safety challenges
03
🌿

Building Complete Communities

A complete community is one where every resident, at every stage of life, has what they need to thrive — sport, recreation, green spaces and strong infrastructure.

  • Ensure Gates Park and new recreation facilities are accessible and affordable for every family in PoCo
  • Champion afterschool sport and youth programs as a cornerstone of healthy, connected communities
  • Advocate for dedicated senior centres, social programs and transportation services
  • Protect and enhance PoCo parks, green spaces and natural areas
  • Advocate for investment in ageing infrastructure including roads, sidewalks, water and sewer systems
  • Ensure environmental stewardship is considered in every land use and development decision
04
💰

Fiscal Responsibility

Residents work hard for their money. Council has a responsibility to spend it wisely, plan for the long term and find creative ways to deliver services without unnecessary burden.

  • Protect Port Coquitlam's record of responsible, below-average tax increases while delivering quality services
  • Actively seek grants and external funding to reduce reliance on property tax
  • Advocate for local government autonomy so PoCo has the tools to make decisions that serve our community
  • Continue and strengthen the culture of transparent, accountable reporting on how public dollars are spent
  • Build partnerships with community organisations to extend the reach of city services efficiently
Your Voice

What matters most
to you?

Tell me what's on your mind. I want to hear from PoCo residents before I knock on your door.

What I Stand For

My values as
your councillor.

These are not talking points. They are the principles I have lived and worked by throughout my career, and the standard I will hold myself to every time I sit at the council table.

Integrity and Trust

I lead with honesty and I follow through on what I say. When I knock on your door, sit at the council table or speak at a community event, you will get the same person every time.

👥
Community First

Port Coquitlam is my home. I am raising my family here and I am invested in its future in the most personal way possible. Every decision I make as a councillor will be grounded in what is genuinely good for the people of this city.

🔨
Practical Leadership

Leadership to me means getting things done alongside the people you serve. I have built sport programs, led nonprofit organisations, managed large-scale events and mentored young people throughout this region.

🚶
Safe and Active Neighbourhoods

Every resident, regardless of age or ability, should feel safe and welcomed in their own neighbourhood. Safe streets, vibrant parks and accessible recreation are not extras. They are what make a city truly liveable.

🌟
Opportunity for Youth and Families

As a coach, mentor and parent I have seen firsthand what is possible when young people are given the right support. I will be a strong, consistent voice for the programs, spaces and investments that help PoCo families flourish.

🔍
Accountability and Transparency

Residents have every right to know how decisions are made and how their money is being spent. I will always communicate openly, explain my reasoning and stay accessible to the community I represent.
